History of Alexander Muir Public School

Alexander Muir Public School is named after a prominent Newmarket resident, Alexander Muir, who wrote the song, “The Maple Leaf forever”, once considered to be Canada’s National Anthem. Alexander Muir was principal at his namesake school during the 1873-1874 school year.
