Safety Awareness Week @AlexMuirPS

yrdsb logoSafety is a priority every day in YRDSB schools. The beginning of the school year is the best time to remind students of the basic principles of being and remaining safe at school and in the community. Each year YRDSB schools find ways to observe and celebrate Safety Awareness Week. This year Monday, September 28th to Friday, October 2nd has been designated as Safety Awareness Week. During this week, students, staff & YMCA daycare partners at Alexander Muir P.S. will participate in a variety of practice drills to familiarize all individuals with the procedures & expectations during these events. Safety Awareness Week also provides an opportunity to practice and improve safety drills and work with our community partners to prepare staff and students to respond in the event of an emergency at our school. We will hold the following drills during the week:

  • A Fire Drill
  • A Hold & Secure Drill
  • A Lock down Drill

Alexander Muir staff has already been discussing and practicing with their students over the past few days in preparation for these drills.

As well this week, classes may discuss & review a variety of Safety Tips fockeep-calm-it-s-safety-week-2used on one or more of the following topics:

  • Internet Safety
  • Stranger Danger
  • Bike Safety
  • Water Safety
  • Traffic Safety
  • Bus Safety

We invite you to also discuss safety tips at home with your child/ren. This could include your home fire exit plan, internet safety at home, electrical appliance safety, when to call 911 as well as your expectations for walking safely to and from school each day. Some great family discussions for dinner time this week.

Being prepared! Safety first!
