Bicycle Safety Tips

From the Town of Newmarket
Safety Cone Sam reminds Town of Newmarket residents of mandatory bicycle equipment, as it is required by law:

Helmet- In Ontario, every cyclist under the age of 18 must wear an approved bicycle helmet. Wearing a properly fitted and approved helmet will greatly reduce the risk of serious head injuries.

  • Light and reflector- a white light mounted on the front of your bike, and a red reflector on the back for riding when dark.
  • Bell or horn- all bikes must have a working bell or horn to announce your approach to others.
  • Reflective tape- white reflective tape on the front forks, red reflective tape on the front and rear stays.

Don’t forget your helmets this summer!
